Write a note on Branches of Physics.  (Attempted in: 2013)

Branches of Physics

The wide scope of physics is categorized into many areas; called the branches of physics. Following are some of the main branches of physics.

1. Mechanics

This branch of physics deals with the study of motion under the influence of force.

2. Heat and Thermodynamics

This branch of physics deals with the study of properties of heat and its transformation(changes)into other forms of energies.

3. Optics

This branch of physics deals with the study of properties of light such as nature of light, propagation of light, reflection of light, refraction of light, dispersion of light and wave properties of light.

4. Electricity and Magnetism

This branch of physics deals with the study of static charges (electrostatic) as well as with moving charges (current electricity) and with the physical phenomenon that occurs due to the effect of charges.

5. Atomic physics

This branch of physics deals with the study of structure and properties of individual atoms.

6. Nuclear Physics

This branch of physics deals with the study of structure and properties of atomic nuclei of an atom.

7. Solid state Physics

This branch of physics deals with the study of specific properties of matter in solid form.

8. Particle Physics

This branch of physics deals with the study of elementary particles of an atom.

9. Plasma Physics

The ionized state of matter is called Plasma. Plasma Physics deals with the study of Plasma. After solid, liquid and gas, plasma is considered as fourth state of matter.

10. Quantum Physics

Quanta is discrete and indivisible unit of energy. So the branch of physics that deals with the study of quanta is called quantum physics.

11. Semi conductor Physics

The branch of physics that deals with semiconductors is called semi conductor physics. Semiconductors are those conductors of electricity whose conductivity is in between the conductors and insulators.

12. Astrophysics (Astro= space)

This branch of physics deals with the study of heavenly bodies and the interaction between Matter and energy in space.

13. Geophysics (Geo= earth)

This branch of physics deals with all the physical properties of earth.

14. Biophysics (Bio= life)

This branch of physics deals with the study of applications of physics to biological process and phenomena.
